What is GSM?
GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) is the most popular standard for celluar systems in the world. GSM networks use SIM Card technology for voice and data applications.
What is MMS?
MMS is the capability to send picture messages to a phone, email, or both at the same time.
Which US providers provide GSM & MMS services?
U.S. cell providers who provide these services with SIM cards are ATT & T-Mobile currently. Verizon does not use SIM cards and will not work with this model.
How do I get a SIM Card?
SIM Card Options:
1. Buy a SIM Card on ebay for less than $5 or at an ATT store for $25. Once purchased, you will need to contact ATT or stop into a store to activate the card. ATT will assign you a phone number to the card, then you need pick a service plan below.
2. Buy a prepaid ATT Go Phone at any local retailer ($19.95). This is the easiest way as it already has a phone number assigned to the SIM card.
Once you have a SIM card, now you need to add service. Goto www.att.com/mygophone > activate now > pay as you go phone > enter your serial number > choose plan. If you have ATT service, the easiest way is to add a line to your family plan for $10/month.
If you do not have ATT service, the best way is to purchase a Go Phone (with a SIM card already inside it) If you purchase a Go Phone, which you can find at any local retailer, that SIM card will already have a number assigned to it, so you can simply add minutes online right away.
Go Phone Plans:
$15 – expires in 30 days
$25 – expires in 90 days
$50 – expires in 90 days
$60 – expires in 90 days
$100 – expires in 1 year
Note: Go Phone plans charge .20 cents per MMS picture message. With ATT service, the best coverage is using their normal service plan. If you do not have ATT service, you can use the Go Phone option, however please check ATT.com first for map coverage areas.
What is the filter that moves in front of the lens sometimes?
The red O-ring in front of the lens is an IR-filter, it's designed to move around depending on your shooting time. When the cam is powered up, the lens will move into position. When power is shut off, it relaxes. For daytime shooting, the filter will be in front of the lens to filter off the IR light which shall interfere your image otherwise (all commercial digital cameras have such a filter fixed in front of the lens); for nighttime shooting, the IR filter will be moved away from the lens to allow IR light pass through to give you the B&W pictures.
